Place to belong
A safe, calm dining room where people can sit, talk, breathe and remember they matter.

First step support
We are often the first doorway into help. No barriers. No judgement.

Housing, health and budgeting support
We walk alongside guests to connect them with the right specialist services.

Advocacy and connection
We speak up for people whose voices are rarely heard and help them navigate the system.

Community partnerships

Our Work

We care for people and the wider living world, minimise waste, share resources and welcome everyone. We walk alongside those facing mental health challenges, addiction, homelessness, poverty or isolation, offering respectful support that builds confidence and community. Everything we do is guided by this vision.

Homelessness in Wellington

Homelessness is more than rough sleeping. It includes people in unsafe housing, couch surfing, living in garages or temporary shelters, often carrying layers of trauma and barriers that make finding stable housing incredibly hard. Limited social housing, low income and lack of wraparound support keep many stuck. The Soup Kitchen is often the first safe place people turn to when everything else has fallen apart.

Working With Agencies

We help people connect with housing, health care, budgeting support, mental health services and more. We work closely with Downtown Community Ministry, Te Aro Health Centre, Aramuka and other partners so people can move forward with the right support.

Advocacy

We speak up for people who are often unseen. We work with government and local agencies on homelessness, food insecurity and mental health. The voices and experiences of our whānau guide everything we do, from daily practice to sector strategy.

Building a Compassionate Community

Volunteers, donors, local businesses and community groups make this mahi possible. We host school groups and workplaces, run learning visits and speak at events. Together we grow understanding, compassion and action across our community.
